Just before Christmas on a routine test before travel, I was diagnosed with COVID-19, relegating me to 21 days in isolation over the holidays under Italy’s tough quarantine rule. Four days later, in my Covid Cave, I lost all sense of smell and the world became an odorous void.
Some weeks later, my smell is 20 percent back. Working to get my nose back is a struggle, and the damage is weirdly random. But I’m training like a scent pro in hopes it will rebound quickly.
