More than three decades ago, Ferruccio Ferragamo had a vision to not just be another great high end Italian fashion brand, but to invest heavily in the Tuscan countryside and the tourism that he was sure would come.
The result Il Borro — hundreds of acres of forests, vineyards, olive groves farmland and a restored once-abandoned old hamlet in the heart of Tuscany between Florence and Arezzo.
I recently visited Il Borro with Ferruccio’s son Salvatore who has run the project for the last 25 years and who explained his family’s journey from footwear and fashion to farming and rural hospitality.
